They lost their priceless lives because they hoped, as every one of us, that our motherland would have a bright and prosperous future, that our country would progress in the positive direction of social evolution, and that China would become a powerful nation to stand up against any injustice in the world. Their dreams, however, did not come true when they were alive. Today, ten years later, we commemerate those who died for their, or rather, our, dream and aspiration. We sincerely sympathize with their family members, who are still weeping in the heart. And we will make every effort to carry on for the benefit of the Chinese people, and of the Great China. May each of those who died at that time, in that place, for that cause, long live in our dream. Let it be known that their legacy is preserved, their dedication to the country recognized, and their pursuit of a better social system continued. But BAA President at the time demanded the change. "Hundreds" is based on the fact that the July 12, 1996 issue of the German weekly "Der Spiegel" (Mirror) reports that with approval of the government, Chinese Academy of Sciences published the number of people that died during the 1989 Pro-Democracy Movement. The number is 523. (also see HuaXiaWenZhai issue cm9607c http://www.cnd.org/HXWZ/CM96/cm9607c.hz8.html)
